To prepare for Forsyth Tech’s High School Fire Academy, it’s essential to plan ahead. Speak with your guidance counselor early in your high school journey to ensure you've completed any necessary general education requirements. The Fire Academy program begins in the fall semester of your junior year. In addition to in-class instruction, you’ll participate in several all-day field trips for hands-on training and practical exercises—don’t worry, equipment and transportation are fully covered! To qualify, students must have a GPA of at least 2.8, though principals may grant exceptions on a case-by-case basis. After high school graduation, you’ll only need to complete a single 40-hour course (and pass state exams) to receive your firefighter certification. If you’re not affiliated with a fire department, please note that there may be a cost for this final class and necessary equipment. (bullet points)
